Oxfordshire County Veterans Team
The first series of matches took place on Saturday October 18th in Reading with the Oxfordshire team keen to make a good start.
Oxon 4 – Dorset 6
A very competitive match with Karl Bushell winning both his singles, including a good win over former England international Tony Clayton. Bushell teamed up with Andy Misseldine to win the men’s doubles. Misseldine won one of his singles and Oxon looked well placed to get at least a point. Eddie Herrity played well in his second singles, narrowly losing 14-12 in the fifth game to John Robinson. With the score at 4-5, Misseldine and Janet Brown needed to win the mixed doubles to secure a point. Leading 2-1 and 10-8 they had two match points but were unable to convert either and were then well beaten in the final set.
Oxon 5 – Worcestershire 5
A great all round effort with Bushell, Misseldine and Herrity each winning one of their two singles. Bushell and Misseldine again proved victorious in the men’s doubles and at 4-3, Oxon looked good for victory. Brown lost a very close singles 14-12 in the fifth but she was victorious with Misseldine in the mixed doubles to ensure the team went home with a point for their sterling efforts.

Midland League Men’s Sunday October 19th: Oxford 5 Leicester 5
Oxford improved on last year’s showing against Leicester, but had to settle for a draw (5-5) after leading 5-3. Bushell, fresh from his win for Oxon Veterans over ex-England International Tony Clayton (Dorset), was on sparkling form in his 3 wins. Misseldine took 2, but he and Bushell lost the doubles in straight games and Greg Boone could only muster one game. For Leicester Amrish Rana took 2, Dave Grundy 1 and Andy Lebutt 1, with Amrish and Andy winning the doubles.

Junior Girls County Rankings
At a recent ranking event at Kidlington Forum, Nicole emerged as the top player.
Banbury were unable to provide any players, but there was healthy competition from Oxford and Didcot. Results were:

In Oxford's Division 1, St James are the early leaders with maximum points from their first two matches. Having strengthened their side this year, they proved too much for Vikings A. Eamonn Deeley beat Jason Tustain to give Vikings a consolation win, but maximums for Andy Misseldine and Tony Stead quickly led to St James winning 9-1 again.
Rutherford are also enjoying a good start, beating Forum B 8-2. Neil Hurford collected another maximum, while Anders Markvardsen and Chris Lansley chipped in with two apiece as Jeremy Flint replied for Forum.
Forum A had a slow start, but are suddenly back up to third place now Karl Bushell is back and they hit British Rail 9-1. Bushell and Greg Boone hit maximums, while Greg Donovan beat Fraser Harris for British Rail's consolation.
A Roel Dullens maximum gave Vikings B all four points against Begbroke A as they stormed to an 8-2 victory.
Witney A's excellent start to the season continued with a 7-3 win over Bicester B, with Chris Wood continuing to impress. Here he beat Dave Badham 13-11 in the decider for his maximum. Witney's Terry Morris is still looking for his first maximum. Here he beat Andy Crofts 14-12, but then lost out to Badham 11-9, as both went to the decider.
Vikings E are second after beating Forum D 6-4. It was a close run thing, requiring Anne Borrowdale to beat John Duncalfe, which she did by 15-13 in the deciding game, then left it to Michael Loizou and Horatio Boedihardjo to clinch it with the doubles.
Although only in third spot at the moment, Gladiators B are looking a bit good. With Xing Jiu-Huang, Yungtai Hsu and John Blanchard all getting maximums, it was one way traffic as they swept aside Vikings C 10-0.
Vikings D shared the points with Haddenham A, despite a convincing maximum for Mark Scott.
In Division 3, Vikings G stormed to their second big win in a row to beat Begbroke B 8-2, with Simon Cox and Pete Sinclair on maximums.
Jake East was the main man for Forum E as they beat Witney B 8-2, then St James B 6-4.
Ricki Whiteaway and Ken Rae were unstoppable for Vikings F in their 9-1 win over St James B.
Rob Moore and John Chalcroft did the business for Bicester C as they defeated Witney B 7-3.
Malcolm Burr led the way to put Vikings H at the top of Division 4. He scored a maximum in their 7-3 win over Forum L, but it was more straightforward against Forum K as Vikings won 10-0.
Forum G are looking good in second place. They were made to work hard against Haddenham B, who forced Forum to accept a draw with the last point of the evening by winning the doubles 12-10 in the decider. Things were easier against Forum I, where Forum G won 10-0.
Forum L bounced back against Bicester D, beating them 10-0.
Three wins for Peter Lamont made all the difference for Forum I, allowing to beat Forum K 6-4.
Forum H held on for a draw with Forum J, despite a Thomas Bowden maximum.
