St James A suffered their first defeat of the season in Division 1 this week. Andy Misseldine stood firm against British Rail with a solid maximum, but that was not enough to save St James going down 6-4 to a determined onslaught from Nigel Taylor, Greg Donovan and John Barclay. Earlier, British Rail had seen off Vikings A 8-2, and these efforts lift them to fourth in the division.
Second placed Rutherford enjoyed a comfortable 9-1 win over lowly Begbroke A, which helps them to keep Forum A third. Forum A won as well this week, beating Vikings B 7-3. That was a valuable point gained by Vikings, who can add that to the three points they get for beating Bicester A 6-4. With a tremendous maximum, Roel Dullens takes most credit for this victory over Bicester that puts Vikings B in a much stronger position.
Vikings A struggled more against Bicester A, managing only a 5-5 draw, despite Gareth Hayward showing the way with a maximum.
Gladiators A are still looking for success, this time going down 9-1 to Forum B.
In Division 2, Gladiators B continue to storm ahead. First they beat Vikings E 7-3, then slaughtered Vikings D 10-0. Viking E's Horatio Boedihardjo really took the fight to Gladiators with two good wins, then won the doubles with Anne Borrowdale. His only defeat was, of course, to the division's top player: Xing Jiu-Huang.
Witney A had a rare defeat this week, to Vikings C. Markus Wagner led the way with a maximum in his first match for Vikings as they won 8-2 to collect all the points.
Forum D had a good week, beating Haddenham A 8-2, then holding Bicester B to a draw.
Begbroke B emerged as the new leaders of Division 3 after a big 9-1 win over Witney B, as
Vikings G slipped to their first defeat. Simon Cox kept Vikings hopes alive with his now customary maximum, but this was not enough to stop a sustained attack from St James B that ended with them winning 6-4.
St James B also beat Witney B 7-3 in similar style, this time with Jon Allsworth hitting back with three.
Forum F are still looking strong: this week they beat club-mates Forum E 7-3, thanks to three for Chris Smith.
A Jake East maximum allowed Forum E to hold Bicester C to a draw, while Vikings F eased past Gladiators C 7-3.
In Division 4, Forum H shoot up to second place by eclipsing Forum K 10-0, while Forum G beat Forum L 6-4.
